With Christmas hurtling towards us, WLD community reporter Keef Williamson went shopping to update the prices of items for Christmas dinner on a budget.
Most of the shop was done at Lidl on Stanningley Road, with a few items coming from Aldi and Tesco in Bramley.
Unsurprisingly, our 11 festive items cost more than last year, which we reported on here. Three items had increased in price, three had decreased and the rest stayed the same. The biggest increase was the turkey roll – a whopping £1.50 more than last year.

Please note the prices shown here are for full packs of the various items, but you wouldn’t use the whole 2.5kg of potatoes or the entire 500g packs of vegetable, so the price per person would be somewhat less than it looks like here.
The exception to that is the turkey roll. At 800 grams it’s a generous serving for four people.
Overall, your budget Christmas dinner will cost you 12.5% more than last year. The Office for National Statistics says UK inflation in the 12 months up to October was 3.6%.
