Police are appealing for information after a man was left seriously injured after being attacked and robbed in Gelderd Road.

The 38-year-old man, was driving along Gelderd Road towards the ring road in his red Toyota Auris when he saw a woman who appeared to be in distress.

After he pulled over near to the Porsche showroom, two men smashed his windscreen. He got out the car and was assaulted by the men who stole his mobile phone.

The suspects drove off in what was described as a low, powerful silver car.

The victim drove to Tong Road, Armley, to find a phonebox and contacted police.

He was treated in intensive care for serious head and facial injuries and is continuing to recover in hospital.

The two men were described as white. One was bald with a trim beard, of muscular build, potentially with a tattoo on his arm. The woman was described as white, slim with long blonde hair. All three were said to have non-English accents, possibly Eastern European.

The incident happened between 10.30pm and 11:40pm on Tuesday, February 16.

Detective Constable Craig Felton, of Leeds District CID, said:

“This was an extremely violent attack on the victim that left him seriously injured. Those injuries could easily have proved life threatening and it is vital that we trace the people responsible.

“We were unable to speak to the victim initially due to his condition and so the investigation focused on Tong Road where he was found. When we were able to speak to him, we established the scene was next to the Porsche showroom in Gelderd Road.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Felton at Leeds District HQ via 101 quoting crime number 13160070283 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
