Farsley Celtic prepare to kick off Evo-Stik Division 1 North campaign

Football is back! This Saturday Farsley Celtic get their 2016/17 Evo-Stik Division 1 North campaign under way as they host relegated Colwyn Bay at Throstle Nest, writes Thomas Ritchie.

With numerous additions made to the squad over the close season The Celts will be aiming for promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier at the sixth time of asking, whilst Colwyn Bay will be looking to bounce straight back.

Farsley have strengthened in all areas with their seven additions, goalkeeper Graeme Mckibbin, defender Luke O’Brien, midfielders Richard Marshall, Nathan Turner, Peter Davidson and their most recent signing Alex Davidson, whilst striker James Walshaw returns to the club.

Five players have left the club over the summer: Lewis Sugden (moved to USA), Lewis Nightingale (Darlington), Tom Taylor (Brighouse), Jake Lofthouse (Harrogate Railway on dual registration) and Robbie O’Brien has retired, which has allowed Paddy Miller to be announced as the club captain for the upcoming year.

Farsley endured a successful pre-season with five wins and a draw as the squad gelled, with the stand out player being James Walshaw, who bagged six goals.

Colwyn Bay have announced that three players have signed one year contacts, those being Danny Andrews, Will Jones and Scott Bakkor, whilst Josh Sumner has left the club.

Colwyn Bay endured a mixed pre-season with four wins, two draws and three defeats, the most recent result being a 1-0 defeat to Rushall Olympic.

Team News:

Farsley Celtic have a clean bill of health and are in line to potentially give seven players debuts.

Colwyn Bay also have no apparent injury concerns and could give debuts to their three recent additions Andrews, Jones and Bakkor.
