For the past four weeks The Really Friendly Music Recitals plus light lunch have been hosted by Graham Barber and hardworking volunteers.
This free live music has been very diverse, starting with Tim Harvey on piano with an eclectic mix of classical and jazz including Scott Joplin and Tom Lehrer.
Week two featured a brilliant classically trained violinist Elaine Green, accompanied by Graham Barber on piano, performing works in a range of styles from Elgar to Gershwin.
The following week hardworking Graham Barber was on a beautifully restored harpsichord playing Preludes and Fugues by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The final concert featured a quartet of ladies, on Soprano Saxaphone: Debbie Scherer, Alto: Molly Austen, Tenor: Alison Owen-Morley and Baritone: Sarah Jobson. Saxshades played a wide range of music from classical to popular tunes.
The four concerts are gratefully funded by Leeds City Council and not to be missed if we are fortunate to welcome them back in 2026. Live music needs supporting especially in such a magnificent setting as St Bartholomew’s Church in Armley.
