Comment: Armley and New Wortley Pride in Place chair introduces himself

By The Rev Phil Arnold, Vicar of Christ Church, Upper Armley,

Area Dean of South Leeds

I’d like to introduce myself to you as the new chair of Armley and New Wortley Pride in Place.

It’s a real honour to be chosen to take on this role.

I am the vicar of Christ Church, Upper Armley, where I have been the vicar for nearly six years. I am married to Rachel and have two kids, one finishing university this year and one in her first year of sixth form.

I love Armley and New Wortley. The sense of community and the way people and organisations work together is inspiring. For me, Pride in Place is about bringing out the best in Armley and New Wortley, making it even better. There are lots of things that we’ll be doing  and everyone can be a part of it.

Over the next 10 years, £20 million will be spent on things that the residents of Armley and New Wortley see as important.

This is a part of a government initiative that will aim for renewal of communities all over the United Kingdom.

By the end of this week, the new board members for Armley and New Wortley Pride in Place will be in place and we will be able to start allocating funds for small wins initially and larger grants in 2027.

I’ll be writing regular update in West Leeds Dispatch outlining the progress we are making.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
