Farsley Celtic produced a stunning comeback as they came from a goal down to defeat rivals Scarborough Athletic 2-1, writes Thomas Ritchie.
Scarborough started the brighter and created numerous early chances with the ever-dangerous Craig Nelthorpe at the forefront, forcing Graeme McKibbin into an early save.
Farsley started to grow into the game and James Walshaw had the first clear cut opportunity as his low shot was smartly saved by Borough ‘keeper Jordan Porter.
Just after the half-hour mark Richard Marshall fired a searing shot goal wards that took a slight deflection to prevent the breakthrough.
The Celts continued the pressure and moments later Nathan Turner delivered a delightful cross only for Jordan Deacey to head straight at the ‘keeper from close range.
Shortly before half-time Scarborough took the lead against the run of play as Aaron Hardy’s misplaced header fell to Nelthorpe who fired goal wards across McKibbin and into the bottom corner.
Scarborough came roaring out of the blocks to start the second half with Nelthrope firing just over from the edge of the box immediately.
Farsley then had a glorious chance to equalise as Walshaw delivered a pinpoint cross that was headed wide by Turner from point blank range.
Midway through the half Walshaw beat Jamie Price to the ball before he was felled in the penalty box.
However Walshaw stepped up to take up the penalty only he to drag his effort wide of the upright, spurning Farsley’s best opportunity.
Farsley continued to press and as Walker headed on Walshaw managed to keep the ball in play and whip the ball into substitute Jacob Hazel, who buried his header into the back of the net.
And before Scarborough knew what had hit them Walshaw stepped up to deliver the crucial blow as he headed in Nightingale’s delightful free-kick to secure all three points for The Celts.
