Boxers Callan Clark and Max Peers are counting on local people to turn out in support at their home show as they join their teammates on the Jamal Promotions event in Armley early next month.
“I didn’t win my first bout a year ago,” said former Leeds West Academy pupil Callan, who turned 18 in June.
“I’m absolutely determined to get the win and have been training three times a week which has ensured I’ve developed a positive mindset as I’m highly motivated and dedicated.
“I started boxing to lose weight and get fitter. Over the last two years, boxing has helped me gain in confidence and learn how to handle myself. It’s time now to put on a show that those attending find entertaining and exciting.”

Former Horsforth School student Max Peers turns 19 in December.
“I started training a year or so ago with Callan and others at Osta’s Gym on Coal Hill Lane in Rodley. It’s run jointly by Al Osta and Jermaine Springer hence the name Jamal.
“I’m more than ready for this debut bout. I feel like I’ve been in training camp for ages as the June show was postponed. I love my three training sessions each week and the focus and discipline boxing gives me and others as we start out in adult life. I can’t wait to demonstrate just how much progress I’ve made.”
Bradford’s Jermaine Springer won eight bouts as a professional boxer. “Callan and Max are just starting out in their boxing journey and are both to be commended for wanting to challenge themselves so early on. They’re both totally committed to their training which is evidence of their passion for boxing. No matter how much you prepare it requires courage to get in the ring.
“It would be great if people who’ve never attended a boxing event came along to support these enthusiastic west Leeds athletes.”
Also fighting on the September show are two novice boxers Elliot Coleman, 36 and Thomas Hudson, 27, along with Andrew Wilson, 47, having his third bout with Jamal. Elliot owns a window and door business and is “feeling good and keen to get on with it.”
Thomas, from Pudsey, works as a bartender and is “excited for my first bout and hopefully mentally and physically prepared.”
Callan and Max can often be seen pounding the streets of Stanningley and Horsforth respectively in what boxers call roadwork.
