Bramley Mermaids celebrate £2,500 raised in their Winter Swim Challenge

The Bramley Mermaids have wrapped up their Winter Swim Challenge, raising more than £2,500 while clocking up over 200km in the pool at Bramley Baths.

The Mermaids train on Sundays at Bramley Baths and are well known for their vintage-style synchronised swimming performances.

The final day of the challenge marked the end of weeks of consistent swimming, mutual encouragement, and shared motivation among members.

Participants described the experience as both physically demanding and deeply rewarding, with swimmers pushing themselves to stay committed despite the often uninviting conditions and busy schedules.

A spokesperson said: “The challenge wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the wider community across West Leeds and beyond. Donations, encouragement, and messages of support all played a key role in helping the group stay on track.

“Alongside the fundraising success, the challenge also strengthened the group’s sense of community.”

Members shared that the experience brought laughter, resilience, and a few moments of self-doubt along the way — but ultimately reinforced friendships and
solidarity within the group.

The Bramley Mermaids are a women-centred, inclusive group that promotes wellbeing through swimming, social connection, and synchronised movement.

This approach blends fitness with fun, offering a supportive environment where members encourage one another both in and out of the water.
