Empty council land has £70,000 price tag

Homes could be built after a vacant plot of council land was put up for sale with a £70,000 price tag.

An area of grassland at Lea Farm Drive in Kirkstall was deemed surplus to requirements by Leeds City Council and put up for auction.

Bids are being invited for the site after the council previously said it would be suitable for five detached houses.

Auction firm BTG Eddisons said the site was surrounded by residential properties and suitable for redevelopment.

The auction web page said: “Amenities nearby include shops and convenience stores, medical facilities, schools, with transport links provided by local bus routes, Kirkstall Forge station and the A6120.

Bids are being invited until May 27 on the site in the Hawksworth area, with a guide price of £70,000-plus.

BTG Eddisons said: “We believe the plot holds development potential, subject to any necessary consents.”

In March the council said the site was not suitable for its own housebuilding plans and a sale by auction would bring in the highest return.

A council report said: “It is likely the site will attract a number of buyers, including self-builders.”

WLD previously reported on the land being put up for sale here.
