Bramley junior parkrun has celebrated its 10th birthday in style – with a big cake!
41 children completed the 2km route, with the fastest coming in at just over seven and a half minutes; so the cake made an excellent reward.
Since the very first event in 2016 Bramley junior parkrun has been held 395 times, has helped 1,765 individual participants over the finish line, and seen almost 10,000 finishes in total.
Which means that since the event started Bramley junior participants have covered a distance equivalent to halfway around the world, which is impressive for young runners.
Bramley junior parkrun is held every Sunday morning at 9am in Bramley Park, it’s free and anyone aged between four and 14 can take part – the just need to register with parkrun here. It is held all year round – with junior parkrun there is no off season.
Danny Hutchinson and Vickie Jamieson have been the co-Event Directors at Bramley junior parkrun for the last five years.
Like most of the other volunteers they are involved in parkrun (which is like the big brother of junior parkrun).
Danny said: “Volunteering at junior parkrun is incredibly rewarding, the children who take part every week are able to have fun, make new friends, and see their performance and health improve through their participation.”
It’s a free weekly activity which requires little in the way of specialist equipment and where parents can join their children on the 2km route, can volunteer to marshal or stand by the finish and clap everyone over the line.
