Bramley Fall Park: Travellers issued with ‘moving on’ order

Travellers who have set up camp on well-used sports pitches in Bramley this weekend have been served with a police order to move them on.

A traveller encampment of around 30 caravans and trailers appeared on green spaces and playing pitches in Bramley Fall Park on Saturday evening (18 July).

The travellers have today been served with a Section 61 order, from the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. The order is a police power in England and Wales that allows officers to direct trespassers to leave land and remove their vehicles without needing a court order

Bramley & Stanningley councillors Tom Hinchcliffe, Kevin Ritchie and Adele Rae (Lab) today (Monday) confirmed on social media: “Following extensive discussions between ourselves, Leeds City Council and the police over the weekend, the police have authorised the use of Section 61. The group will be served today and will be required to leave tomorrow.

“We’d like to thank residents who supported us with evidence and reports of criminality occurring at the site and look forward to getting our green space back at Bramley Falls.”
