West Leeds: Tributes paid to former chip shop owner Stanley Welbourn

Tributes have been paid to popular former west Leeds chip shop owner Stanley Welbourn, who recently passed away.

Mr Welbourn was well-known for running West End Fisheries in Bramley. He had also run chippies on Stanningley Road, Station Parade in Rodley and Carlisle Road (pictured above) in Pudsey.

He passed away peacefully at his home in Gildersome on August 20. A funeral service will be held at St Peter’s Church, Gildersome at noon on Monday, September 7 prior to private cremation.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Welbourn on Facebook.

Gail Pitman said:

“So sad to hear of this. I loved his fish and chips!”

Denis Angood added:

“People used to travel far for his fish and chips – I know because I did. Used to go up to Carlisle Road from Bramley and down to Rodley. Remember I always had to join a queue when I got there. Not many fish friers were as good as him. RIP Stan.”

Mr Welbourn was the husband of the late Margaret and father to Susan, Carol and Sarah. Check out his full obituary.
