Volunteers revive Pudsey Market stalls with fresh coat of paint

A team of volunteers gave up their Sunday morning to help give Pudsey Market stalls a fresh coat of paint.

The volunteers aimed to give the market place a lift as the council continues to run a public consultation on the future of the market.

Councillor Simon Seary (Cons, Pudsey) who organised the painting session, said on social media: “Together we repainted the market stalls, handrails and signage, making a real difference to the appearance of the market. It’s amazing what can be achieved when people come together and take pride in our town.

“We’re not quite finished yet. We’ll be returning with a tin of gold paint to refresh the market entrance sign and complete the job.

“A special thank you to KOVA Coffee for providing an excellent caffeine boost to keep the volunteers going.”

West Leeds residents have just ten days left to help shape the future of Pudsey Market as part of the public consultation.

As previously reported by WLD, the consultation follows concerns over declining footfall and trader numbers at the market, which is based in Pudsey town centre.

The council says: “The market is no longer financially sustainable as it currently stands, and the market service can no longer support the market financially.

“Rather than just closing the market, we want to explore alternative options first and to do that we want to get your views and ideas by carrying out this consultation with current market traders, local ward members and residents of Pudsey.

“This will help us to better understand what would make you return to, or start to shop, at the market, what type of markets you would like to see or ideas around alternative uses which will generate income and help to attract people back to Pudsey market as well as get it to at least a break-even position.”

  1. I applaud what they are trying to do with the market. But I have to say, that you can polish a turd as much as you want, but at the end of it it is still a turd!

  2. Polishing it up so that it can become a good car park when the Town Hall is sold and the incumbents will be able to leave their cars in their parking spaces at the expenses of the local community.
