A volunteer is set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise £4,000 to support young people in Armley – and is asking for your support.
Lee Doyle is aiming to raise money to support youngsters at the 11th Leeds Boys Brigade at Whingate Methodist Church. The money will go towards subsidising annual week-long camps and also pay for many of the activities the boys enjoy while they are away.
“The reason why I am raising funds for the 11th Leeds is to ensure the current members and future members can experience and enjoy activities at our annual camp,” Mr Doyle said.
“I am sure you can understand the value and importance of our lads going on camp and enjoying their week away. To put into perspective how much activities cost, we spent £931.16 on activities at this year’s camp.”
Friend and volunteer Lee Metcalfe, who last year helped raise more than £1,800 for Martin House Hospice via a sponsored bike ride, added: “The fund enables us to greatly reduce the cost of our annual week-long camps and also pay for many of the activities the boys enjoy while we are away.
“Lee hopes to raise £4,000, an amount that will make a massive difference for many years to come.
Along with a party of six, Mr Doyle aims to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world. It stands 19,341 feet above sea levels.
