Santa takes to streets of Farnley and Wortley

by Peter Allison

Returning for its fourth year is the Farnley and Wortley Santa Sleigh Tour, followed by a family activity day and Santa’s Grotto at Farnley Community Centre.

Taking place over two evenings Santa will take to the streets, staring off in Farnley on Wednesday the 18th of December followed by Wortley on Thursday, 19 December.

In his trusty sleigh led by his loyal elves, Santa will be on hand to supply the children of Farnley and Wortley with joy, laughter and, of course, the odd sweet or two!

The routes have recently been amended to include new build developments including Old School Lane (part of the former Wortley High School), Whitehall Grange (New Farnley) & the Stonebridge Mills Development and for the first time Hare Farm Avenue has been included and also the Tavistock’s in Wortley.

The route plans can be found at:

The route maps give an estimated time that Santa will be in the area, but the best way to stay up to date is to follow him live at Facebook.com/farnleycommunitycentre on the evening, where live updates will be posted with his upcoming location.

On Saturday, 21 December 12.30-3.30pm Santa will be at Farnley Community Centre (Cross Lane, LS12 5AA), for his annual visit to his Grotto.

The event is free to attend, and each child will receive a gift and can take part in several free activities in the main hall of the centre.

Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day with everything as reasonably priced as possible, meaning that families that are out priced at other venues can have the opportunity for their child to see Santa on this special occasion.

Also present at the event will be Debbie Kemp of Mrs Kemp’s Café, who will be raising vital funds for life saving defibrillators and their upkeep and maintenance. the defibrillators are placed across Leeds with several placed in and around Farnley and Wortley as part of the Andrew Kemp Memorial.

Mrs Kemp will have a Christmas-themed tombola for all the family.

Chair and trustee of Farnley Community Centre, Peter Allison, said: “I take great pride in been able to do something that unties all corners of Farnley and Wortley, and this has certainly become our tradition.

“The plans are ambitious for next year and we will look to continue what we have started making it much bigger and better as we have each year. As such, we look forward to continuing to support and bring festive joy to our community year after year.”
