A Bramley resident has launched a new petition calling on Lloyds Banking group to reverse its decision to close its Bramley Halifax branch in June.
WLD last month reported on the decision to close the Bramley Shopping Centre branch on 15 June 2026. Lloyds pointed to the increase in online banking and customers using apps as their main way to bank.
But Bramley resident Gavin Lundy is angry over the proposals and is determined to fight the decision.
He told WLD: “I needed to do something. I look after a neighbour in a wheelchair and that is his bank. There are a lot of vulnerable people in Bramley and Lloyds are just dismissing their needs.
“They are cutting off a proportion of the community and it isn’t fair. We successfully campaigned to get public benches reintroduced at Bramley Shopping Centre after they were removed, we should fight to save our last bank, too.”
Mr Lundy said that this morning the ATM at Tesco wasn’t working and that the Post Office in Bramley was difficult to access in a wheelchair.
Mr Lundy pointed to the reduction in bank branches across West Leeds.
He added: “A lot of the local community depend on this branch as the Yorkshire Bank closed a few years ago in similar circumstances.
“There are no banks in Armley anymore and only one in Pudsey, so please if this affects you or someone you know, let’s grow this petition to show the banks we needs to keep this branch open.”
WLD yesterday reported that Bramley was ineligible for a banking hub – a shared, high-street space providing essential banking services, usually established in communities where bank branches have closed. Armley and Horsforth currently have banking hubs.

Bramley & Stanningley Labour Party has already launched a petition opposing the closure, which is due to be handed in to Lloyds bosses in the next week. Mr Lundy says his petition runs ‘alongside’ that.
The Labour petition currently has more than 900 signatures.
Councillor Tom Hinchcliffe (Lab, Bramley & Stanningley) said: “We are not under any illusion about getting this decision overturned – it is the access to cash and the availability of speaking to a human being which are the major issues. We are looking for concessions from Lloyds.”
He said councillors’ appeals to have a banking hub introduced had twice been rejected.

Good luck but Halifax in Horsforth just shut March 26 even though we tried to keep it open . In fact we were told to go to Halifax in Bramley. Which if not a car owner means 4 buses to get there and back.
We have a temporary hub open till they find permanent one.
The Halifax announced this closure quite a while ago, and I think the date proposed is quite soon? I’ve signed this, but I fear it is quite late to be challenging this decision.
