Problems: Kirkstall Leisure Centre main pool

Technical problems at Kirkstall Leisure Centre’s main swimming pool have led to council chiefs admitting it won’t re-open until Monday, 4 October.

Leisure centre bosses had been experiencing problems with heating the main pool, and an announcement was made over its temporary closure last Monday.

The planned repair works are due to start tomorrow (Monday, 27 September), with a scheduled seven days to complete and allow the pool temperatures to increase to normal levels.

A statement issued by the centre said:

“Despite hard work and perseverance by all concerned the decision to temporarily close the large pool has been made following industry guidance.

“The water temperature has dropped to below 26 degrees and – with the added pressures of inconsistencies in the outside air temperature – the water cannot maintain a stable level to remain open. Please view our alternative pool sessions across other leisure centres, such as Armley, Pudsey and Holt Park.

“The large pool will remain closed until Sunday 3 October with a view to reopening on Monday 4 October. Should there be any updates then these will be communicated via our relevant channels.

“Any lessons which normally take place in the large pool will be cancelled and credits will be added to your December direct debit.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time and we are sorry for the inconvenience.”

The small pool will continue to operate as normal for swimming lessons and family swims.
