Pudsey Post Office closure: protest planned

A peaceful protest against plans to close Pudsey Post Office will be held this weekend.

The protest will be held outside the Church Lane building on Saturday, 11th February, by members of the Labour Party, and the Communication Workers Union from 10am-12 noon.

As reported on January 11, Post Office Limited has announced proposals to close Pudsey Post Office as part of a raft of national cost-cutting measures and replace it with a small counter in another shop or supermarket, on a franchise basis.

It comes as a petition to save Pudsey Post Office, launched last month by local resident Rachel Holt, nears the 1,500 signature mark.

One of the signatories, Paul Kaye, said:

“I’ve used the Pudsey Post Office since I was a boy; and even my business makes use of it as well. What madness to close what is a main draw to the town.”

The Dispatch understands discussions to franchise out the service have been held with some interested parties, inlcuding a national chain with a store on Lowtown.
