A busy road in Pudsey has closed for 14 weeks to allow vital culvert replacement works to take place.
The Valley Road works began yesterday (Monday, 13 July). Council highways chiefs say they are necessary to replace a failing culvert and help prevent future problems.
The signed diversion route is via Kent Road, Lowtown and Robin Lane/Littlemoor Road.
The closure will affect bus services 14 and 81.
Service 14
- Towards Pudsey: Buses will divert via Lowtown and will not serve Kent Road, Valley Road, Littlemoor Road or Robin Lane.
- Towards Leeds/Bramley: Buses will divert via Lowtown, Kent Road and Valley Road to the Troydale turning circle, before returning to their normal route.

Service 81
- Service 81 will also be affected by the closure, with diversions in place.
Valley Road businesses Mega Bites and Plant Pots Direct remain open throughout the works.
A spokesperson from plant business Plant Pots Direct wrote on Facebook: “We are well aware of the importance of the works and agree they need to be done now (if not three years ago).
“As a business owner on Valley Road the disruption is going to affect many aspects of the daily running of business, mostly customer parking close to the shop, no buses directly outside and potentially issues receiving deliveries.
“We urge all customers, old and new, to help us through the 14 (plus) weeks, to continue shopping with us and ensure we are still around for the next growing season when all the disruption has gone away. We started growing for this season last November, unaware of the disruption, so our stock levels are still quite high.”
