Concerns over late-night noise have led a Kirkstall pub to drop its plans for 3am finishes to screening outdoor England World Cup games in its car park.
Bosses at the Kirkstall Bridge Inn had applied for three Temporary Event Notices for licensable activities to end at 3am. This led to an objection from the council’s Environmental Protection Team on the grounds of potential public nuisance.
Following discussions between pub bosses and the council’s Environmental Health department, it was agreed that the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment, and late-night refreshment would be amended to earlier finishes:
- Wednesday, 17 June – 11.20pm.
- Tuesday, 23 June – 11.20pm.
- Saturday, 27 June – 11.59pm.
In light of the agreement, the item was withdrawn from being considered by councillors on this morning’s Licensing Sub Committee meeting at Leeds Civic Hall.
England’s opening two games, against Croatia and Ghana, will kick off at 9pm UK time, while their final group stage fixture, against Panama, will begin at 10pm.
An objection from the council’s Environmental Health Services had said the pub was in close proximity to residential properties on Leeds and Bradford Road and Broad Lane. They saidsaid the events were “extremely likely to cause noise nuisance to nearby residents from loud music, loud sports noise and noise from loud football fans.”
The applicants said a maximum of 450 people, including staff, would be in attendance. The Bridge Road pub, run by Kirkstall Brewery, already has permission to show sporting events indoors until 2am, with the use of outside areas restricted to 11pm.

WLD first reported the application here.
