A building at the historic St Ann’s Mills complex in Kirkstall could be demolished to make way for new flood defences alongside the River Aire.
Engineers BAM Nuttall have submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council to demolish the former City Press building, which sits next to the main office building on the site.
The demolition is required to allow BAM Nuttall to build flood defence walls, as part of a multi-million pound scheme to protect the Kirkstall Valley area from flooding following the 2015 Boxing Day floods.
The building – described as ‘redundant’ in the planning application is a single storey stone constructed building, which had been used as a workshop in the past.
Following demolition, the site will be landscaped and returned to greenspace.
