Horsforth’s MP becomes ambassador for Leeds Women’s Aid

Horsforth MP Katie White has become an ambassador for Leeds Women’s Aid, a charity supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence and abuse.

Ms White will be an advocate for victim-survivors of abuse and help to raise awareness of issues facing women and girls.

During her time as an MP for Leeds North West, she has voiced her strong support for those affected by domestic abuse and has championed a powerful campaign led by Pauline Jones, the mother of Bethany Rae Fields, a young woman from Leeds murdered by her ex-partner in 2019.

Katie White said: “I’m honoured to become an ambassador for Leeds Women’s Aid, which provides a lifeline for women and families experiencing domestic violence and abuse in Leeds and West Yorkshire.

“The heart-breaking murder of Bethany Rae Fields, and the incredible strength of her mother, my constituent Pauline, and their family, serve as powerful reminders of the crucial role organisations like Leeds Women’s Aid play in our community.

“As charity ambassador, I am committed to promoting access to vital domestic violence and abuse services, and working with authorities to create a system that truly protects women and girls.”

Chief Executive of Leeds Women’s Aid, Nik Peasgood, said: “We are delighted to welcome Katie White as ambassador of Leeds Women’s Aid. Her passion for empowering vulnerable people, and her commitment to supporting and inspiring communities in Leeds resonates closely with our organisational values.

“We look forward to working together with Katie to raise awareness and garner support for our vital work, both locally and nationally.”

Ms White joins existing Leeds Women’s Aid ambassador, Sarah Butters, a West Yorkshire magistrate and domestic abuse educator, who delivers training about coercive and controlling behaviour to criminal justice professionals, schools, universities and community groups across the UK.

Leeds Women’s Aid provides a range of domestic abuse services including a 24/7 telephone helpline, online chat, emergency refuge accommodation, discreet drop-in services, healthy relationship programmes, legal support and advocacy and specialised support for children and young people. It also has a charity shop in Horsforth.
