Horsforth Town Council announced the details of their new monthly litter picks this week, and local residents are encouraged to join in and help keep Horsforth tidy.
Previously the town council have organised litter picks throughout the month of October but this year sees the launch of a schedule of litter picks taking place on the first Sunday of the month, starting this Sunday, 6 September, with a different area covered every month.
Cllr Simon Dowling, Chair of the Town Council, said: “Horsforth Town Council recognises and greatly appreciates the fantastic efforts of local volunteers who give their time to litter pick and help keep Horsforth looking its best.
“Building on the success of our litter picks in previous years, we’re delighted to now be organising these sessions on a more regular basis. Everyone in the community is welcome to get involved, although we ask that children are accompanied by an adult.
“All sessions are fully risk assessed, with a safety briefing provided before each litter pick begins.
“We’re incredibly proud of our community, and as a Town Council we’re pleased to provide more regular opportunities for residents to come together, make a difference and help take care of the place we all love.”

Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to join the litter picks, meeting on the first Sunday of every month at 10.30am, at the following venues:
- 6 September 2026 – Hall Park and Crabtree Land – meet outside Morrisons on Town Street
- 1 November 2026 – Broadfields area – meet outside Morrisons Daily on Broadgate Lane
- 3 January 2027 – Woodside and Victoria ward area – meet outside Tesco on New Road Side
- 7 March 2027 – Brownberrie ward area – meet at the flower bed at the junction of Long Row and Station Road
- 2 May 2027 – Hall Park and Crabtree land – meet outside Morrisons on Town Street
- 4 July 2027 – Woodside and Victoria ward area – meet outside Tesco on New Road Side
Equipment will be provided for these events but volunteers are reminded to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather.
The Town Council litter picks are in addition to the regular efforts of Horsforth’s long established and dedicated army of volunteer litter pickers who can be seen regularly across the town helping to rid the area of unsightly rubbish. Horsforth Litter Pickers are always looking for more volunteers to help keep the town looking its best.
