Grade II Listed Bramley Baths is to continue its work as a major cultural and community hub over the next few weeks and months as it rolls out its Heritage Open Days events and refreshes its Friends of Bramley Baths scheme.
On Saturday, 12 September Bramley Baths will be hosting its Heritage Open Days activities as part of the national festival aimed at celebrating local heritage.
The theme is “Everyday Histories” and a series of family workshops will bring to life the characters who have lived, worked and shaped the city’s last remaining Edwardian bath house, with guided tours of the Baths sharing the stories that still echo around its walls.
As well as tours, a guided walk around Bramley will explore the roots of the teacher and suffragette, Mary Gawthorpe, one the area’s most inspiring pioneers of the women’s suffrage movement and her connection to Bramley Baths.
Places are still available for the activities and details can be found on the Heritage Open Days website here. Booking is via the website – search for 12 September listing here and book your place here. All activities are free.

Friends scheme relaunches
Alongside these events, the Friends of Bramley Baths scheme is being relaunched to celebrate the baths’ unique heritage and highlight its important role in local life and the city’s story.
The aims of the Friends programme are to strengthen engagement with existing supporters and reach new ones, build stronger connections between supporters and the organisation and provide opportunities for individuals to make an ongoing contribution.
There are various offers available providing opportunities for people to support in different ways. The scheme also offers a way for those not able to physically visit the building or who are distanced to support the baths.
Over the next few months, the Baths will be delivering an exciting series of events to engage the community in a variety of different ways, to deliver for local people and put Bramley Baths on the map as an innovative Leeds venue. Watch this space!
Investment in #MoreThanAPool from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, is enabling Bramley Baths to explore the untapped potential of its heritage, protect and restore the building, and support long-term service delivery and development.
