Horsforth: Former shoe shop to become Greek restaurant

By John Baron

The former Hopscotch children’s shoe shop on New Road Side will become a new Greek restaurant and takeaway after council planners gave the green light.

Stavro Goskova, of Two Brothers PFS, has successfully applied to change the use of the empty shop into a restaurant/takeaway open 9am-11pm, seven days a week.

The new business is described as 85% restaurant dining and 15% hot food takeaway, with a new kitchen extractor flue, signage, external seating area and improvements to the unit’s frontage and public realm.

A council planning officer’s report approving the proposal said: “Highways Development Control department have reviewed the scheme and consider that the parking facilities and bin and cycle store positions are acceptable subject to conditions.

“As such it is considered the scheme will not have a detrimental impact on highway and pedestrian safety.”

Use of the outdoor seating area will be restricted to 9am to 9pm due to nearby nearby residential properties.

A planning statement submitted with the application concluded: “The proposed change of use at 75b New Road Side delivers a well-considered, policy-compliant scheme that enhances the local environment, supports economic growth, and delivers a unique, high-quality restaurant offer with limited ancillary hot food takeaway.”

There had been one letter of objection over parking. Horsforth Town Council neither supported or opposed the application.

The venture is expected to create around six full and part-time combined jobs.
