Horsforth Climate Action hosts annual Green Gardening Fair

By Jill Stocks

There was a good turn out for the annual Green Gardening Fair, hosted by Horsforth Climate Action, which took place at the weekend.

The event at St Margaret’s Church invited people to come and ask any questions they had about gardening and composting as well as having a choice of seedlings and plants to take away or swap.

As well as house plants there were various others such as tomato plants and leeks and many seasoned gardeners and amateurs left happy with their new planting projects.

Advice was given on wildlife friendly gardening including giving away suitable plants.

Entertainment for children was provided by David Blakely with his potato art table.

It was a busy weekend for Horsforth Climate Action. Earlier in the day the group were at Horsforth Farmers Market where they were joined by Dan Bell from Oddbike for a bike repair fix where children were invited to bring their bikes for a check ahead of Walk to School Week, which begins on May 19.

The monthly Repair Cafe took place in the Parish Centre at St Margaret’s, also on Saturday afternoon.

And on Friday evening almost 60 people attended the Horsforth Climate Action Film Night at Grove Methodist Church, and in association with the Grove Cinema, and enjoyed a showing of the film “Wilding”

The film tells the story of a couple attempting to rewild their 400 year old estate. Rewilding is the process of restoring nature in an area, habitats and species, in the hope it can combat climate change.

There’s lots more coming up from Horsforth Climate Action in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on their social media for various events, including a mass bike ride in June.
