A planning application to move Horsforth banking hub from its present location to a permanent home in the former Morrisons cafe has been supported by town councillors.
The Planning Licensing and Traffic Committee of Horsforth Town Council discussed the application at their recent meeting and gave the move from its current home at Horsforth Community Hub to a new permanent home its full backing.
The banking hub opened in February following the closure of the last bank branch in the town when the Halifax closed its doors for the final time.
The hub found a temporary home at the community hub but has since been seeking permanent premises and has submitted a planning application to relocate to the former Morrisons cafe space further down Town Street.
Horsforth Town Councillors warmly welcomed the application as a positive move for residents, ensuring banking facilities would be available for many more years.
Cllr Aiden Goulden, Chair of the Planning Licensing and Traffic Committee for Horsforth Town Council, said: “The Town Council supported the planning application to enable the Banking Hub to move into the former Morrisons cafe, as the committee recognised the importance of finding a permanent home for this vital community facility.
“Access to physical facilities is crucial for those with limited access to the digital world, and facilitates those face-to-face conversions on complex banking queries.”
Cash Access UK, which runs banking hubs across the country, providing banking services to communities with no high street bank branches, said: “Cash Access UK is making good progress on the permanent home for the banking hub in Horsforth.
“Once it opens, customers of all major banks will be able to visit any weekday for their everyday banking transactions, and if customers have a more complex enquiry for their bank, a community banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.
“In the meantime, the temporary location remains open at Horsforth Community Hub on Town Street and continues to provide all the same services as permanent hubs.”
Horsforth banking hub provides banking services from its current home in Horsforth Community Hub and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
