Farsley Christmas light appeal passes half-way mark – but more support needed

By Sarah Smith

An appeal to raise £2,000 towards the annual Farsley Christmas Lights switch on has passed the half-way mark – and still has 13 days to reach its target.

The Farsley lights switch on will be on Wednesday 27 November 2024 and a crowdfunder to support the event has so far raised almost £1,300.

Organisers are now encouraging more people to donate to enable them to reach their target.

A spokesperson said: “Just think if everyone who comes along – parent, child, grandparents, shops – donated just £1, what a difference it would make and completely smash our target.

“We hope that the people, businesses in Farsley and families attending will once again contribute to this event so that we can make it an enjoyable event for everyone. We realise things are tight but any contribution towards the running costs would be most welcome.”

The switch-on is run entirely by volunteers who give up their time to make this a community event for everyone.

Organisers have to pay for the Christmas trees, first aid staff, street closure, security, barriers, fireworks, lights, public liability insurance etc.

The crowdfunder can be found here.
