A free weekend of arts and music is being held at Farsley’s Sunny Bank Mills complex over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
DemocARTisation features work by groups and individuals in North West Leeds who might not otherwise get the chance to showcase their work.
Guiseley School is showcasing art right through from Year 7 to A level, along with some of the teachers.
There will be other artists and craftspeople. Courtyard Cafe is making a popup cafe and have been busy baking pasties and cakes and showing art.
Saturday’s music is all young bands from Horsforth-based Ls18Rocks and Sunday’s features a great mixed programme of adult performers, including a Barbershop group and 100-voice choir.
Organiser Dianne Riding said: “It’s all about giving people who dont normally have their creativity and talents recognised, young and old, a chance to shine, be involved and have fun.”
The event will also showcase Dianne’s North West Leeds Mural Project, which was created with over 300 children and has been at Holt Park concourse for two years.
“These will be on show together with some new giant boards from adult groups,” Dianne added.
The event will be held in Sunny Bank’s first floor gallery in the 1912 building – well known for filming the popular Sewing Bee television programme. It runs Saturday and Sunday (25-25 May) from 11.30am-5pm each day.
