Dawsons Corner – gradual evolution of a new junction

Community reporter – and local resident – Neil Cullen continues to look at the latest developments at Dawsons Corner.

It is often difficult to make sense of a construction project as it progresses.

But the photograph above, snatched through a gap in the continually queuing traffic, shows
hopeful progress at Dawsons Corner.

With a constant rumble of diggers in the background, finalising drainage works at the
extreme right and left of this photo, and two of the final kerb lines are visible to sharp eyes.

The photo was taken from the north side of Bradford Road, nearly opposite the electricity substation, and an arrow on the layout plan (below) shows its direction, looking towards queueing traffic on the Stanningley Bypass.

This is the approximate point that traffic on the new junction will rejoin Bradford Road.

There is clearly a lot to do yet, and it will be many months before any tarmac is laid, but
many layers of crushed stone sub-base are now in place, waiting expectantly.
