The sun shone for the hundreds who gathered for Horsforth Sports Club community and music festival and enjoyed great food and drink and great entertainment.
Starting last Friday teatime, there was a full programme of music right through to Saturday night and beautiful weather to enjoy it in.
Many local businesses also had stalls at the festival and there were activities to keep the kids occupied too.
Matt Dunwell, who runs a company called Assembly Point, organised the packed music programme which featured a number of local acts and up and coming acts.
He said: “I’m working with Horsforth Sports Club helping with the community festival, helping curate and put together all the live music. Just doing my bit with the live entertainment side.
“There’s 12 acts over the two days. There’s pretty much an act every hour. We’re really trying to make sure that we’re lending to the local community. So there’s all kinds of levels as well, so earlier slots just giving people the opportunity to play, giving them a fair shot to play in front of an audience and play on a decent size stage with production and stuff.
“As it progresses throughout the day we get more into the bands and the duos and all that kind of thing. The majority of it is covers, crowd pleaser kind of stuff, but we really try to tap into the local community well rather than casting it too far out. A good 80% of it is local acts from Horsforth and the surrounding area.”
Claire Secker is from Horsforth Sports Club who organised the festival again after three previous successful events.
She said they were pleased with the support from local people: “Horsforth Sports Club went bigger and better this year, building on last year’s successes.
“We want to thank everyone that came down and visited us, soaked up the atmosphere and enjoyed the live music with us!
“We are already planning next year’s event on 18 and 19 June, get the dates in your diary!”
And the warm weather meant that there were some thirsty punters! Jenni Kerslake is from the brewery who had a bar at the event. She told us: “The community festival was fantastic. A truly wholesome family-friendly event that brought the people of Horsforth together. Sunshine, great live music, excellent food vendors and of course, fantastic beers. It was a wonderful vibe.
“We had a phenomenal weekend. Not only did we sell out of beer at the festival, but the restock wiped out the Brewery! We kept going as long as we could, but by 7pm we’d been drunk dry. We are truly grateful for everyone who came out to support the local community!
“I’d also like to shout out the festival organisers – Claire, Dave and their entire team were great and the day wouldn’t have run so smoothly without them.
“This event is a true asset to the community and we’re already looking forward to next year!”
