A crowdfunder has been launched to help a new community cafe in Bramley become more sustainable.
Bramley Elderly Action (BEA) officially launched its community cafe in Bramley Shopping Centre in August with the aim of ‘increasing happiness in the community’.
They have now launched a crowdfunder to support the sustainability of the cafe, which is facing ‘serious financial challenges’.
BEA is the sole shareholder of the community interest company that runs Bramley Community Cafe and Bramley Community Shop, with any surpluses going towards the work of Bramley Elderly Action.
The crowdfunder says: “Due to a range of encountered reasons (eg insufficient power to the kitchen) we fully opened the community cafe three and half months later than planned. Consequently losing takings while we still paid overheads like the rent, service charge, rates etc.
“The good news is that we now have a fully functioning kitchen, a very accessible community space, serving good quality home-made food to local people. And takings are growing. The bad news is that the delayed opening means that we are three and a half months behind budget and the cafe is facing serious financial challenges.
“Consequently, we are asking you to help us get back on track and keep Bramley Community Cafe a friendly, affordable and welcoming community space for local people. With any surplus from the community cafe going back into the Bramley community and towards the good work of Bramley Elderly Action (BEA).”
Thanks to a generous offer from an anonymous individual, every £1 people donate is in effect worth £2, as he will donate the final £6,000 if the appeal reaches the halfway point of £6,000.
