It was a sad day today (Sunday) for Calverley as popular cafe Cravings by Sid closed its door for the final time. But Saeed Hussain, also known as Sid promised he and his much-loved brownies and cakes would be back.
Saeed was just 22 when he opened the cafe last year. He was already well-known in the village where he’d helped out at the Post Office run by his mum Waheeda while studying for his degree in hospitality.
When the former sandwich shop just down the road from the Post Office became available, Saeed saw it as an opportunity and opened in February 2025, specialising in freshly-baked goodies and milkshakes – or cravings – as well as savoury food. His mum also returned regularly with Friday curry nights, which she started when she ran the Post Office.
Now after a hectic and exhausting 18 months, Saeed has decided to call it a day and move on to new projects. But first of all, he’s going to take a well-earned break, visiting family and friends.
“It has been sad to say goodbye to customers who came into the cafe, but I’ll still be around and will still be catering, so watch out for details,” he said.
Customers flocked to the cafe at the weekend, starting with the final curry night, which sold out within a couple of hours. After selling out everything else over the rest of the weekend, including his locally-famous brownies, Saeed said goodbye.
On his social media pages, he said the business had been built on late nights, early mornings, laughter, chaos, and most importantly his customers who has shaped Cravings into something he was proud of.
“We can’t thank you enough for the support, the love, and the memories. Truly — you, the customers, have been the heart of Cravings,” he said.
The cafe is expected to re-open under new management in the autumn.
