The under-12s team at Wortley Junior Football Club are celebrating being crowned champions of the Garforth Junior Football League second division following a 1-0 victory over Pudsey Junior Whites.
They also won the boys’ Leeds and District Football Association Cup 2025 last month.
“What a season for Wortley FC Under 12s,” said coach Mark Montgomery.
“This was their first year of competitive football as a team, with 16 different children playing – all of whom deserved a place on the team.
“Most have now turned 12. They’ve enjoyed playing 38 games and they’re all over the moon finishing as double winners. This is a quality group of players I’ve watched grow and develop, including some from as young as five. No-one could be prouder of how far they’ve come in their journey.”
Â
Montgomery agreed with manager Richard Meredith that the team’s success was largely down to their “resilience which can be enhanced through training, but which is also the expression of a positive mindset.
“The boys were frequently underdogs in cup games and then had to regain lost ground in the league. These boys played for the badge and for each other and got rewarded for it. We’re grateful to our sponsors Digi-tal Web Development, Curtainpolestore.co.uk, BRO Electrical and Mint contracting Services.”
Next season the team will play as under-13s and any high-level player of that age wanting to join the team is invited to trials starting in June at New Farnley Cricket Club.
