Calverley Old Hall nominated in Leeds Architecture Awards

Calverley’s historic Old Hall has been shortlisted for an award which recognises the cream of Leeds’ architecture.

The multi-million pound renovation work on the historic building has been shortlisted in the ‘adapted buildings and conservation’ section at the Leeds Architecture Awards.

The Old Hall, on Woodhall Road, was re-opened last year after a ÂŁ5 million renovation programme, which included ÂŁ1.7m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It is owned by the Landmark Trust and Calverley Old Hall was its biggest ever project, which took the building from a near derelict state to quality accommodation for up to ten people. It also provided a community space and garden for the village.

Also nominated is Citu’s Stall development, a community of 50 zero carbon properties currently on forgotten brownfield land off Wyther Lane, Kirkstall. Stall is nominated in the ‘new buildings with a construction value of less than ÂŁ10 million’ category.

On Thursday, 6 November, the cream of the city’s architecture will be recognised in a ceremony at the Howard Assembly Room, compered by former BBC journalist Andrew Edwards.

The Leeds Architecture Awards are presented by a consortium of Leeds City Council, Leeds Civic Trust, Leeds Society of Architects and RIBA and seek to showcase projects completed over the last two years.

To mark Leeds Civic Trust’s 60th anniversary, members of the public have asked to nominate their favourite building constructed over the last 60 years for a special People’s Prize.

Leeds Civic Trust director Martin Hamilton said: “As an organisation that encourages the best in design, this is an opportunity to celebrate the city’s architecture and design and to encourage the best.”

A small number of tickets remain available for the ceremony. For more information about this and the awards process visit: Leeds Architecture Awards 2025.
