Calverley & Farsley Ward local election result 2026: Andrew Carter holds for Conservatives

Long-standing Conservative councillor Andrew Carter comfortably held Calverley & Farsley ward at this year’s Leeds City Council elections.

Cllr Carter received 3,102 votes, while the nearest challenger – Labour’s Kathryn Penny – received 2,313. Reform UK’s Andy North finished third.

Speaking after the result, Cllr Carter said he felt ‘tired but delighted’.

He also fired a warning to Labour that the wider results in Leeds were down to the council being ‘badly run’ by Labour.

Predicting a hung council, he said: “If everyone acts like grownups, there will be opportunities for areas of Leeds which have been neglected over the years.

“This day has been a long time coming. The people have spoken and Labour need to respond to that.”

Councillor Carter is Leeds’ longest-serving city councillor of any party, having been first elected in 1973. He led the local Tories since 1983 and served as Leeds’ joint council leader between 2004 and 2010, when the Conservatives led the city in coalition with the Liberal Democrats.
