Police held speed checks outside Bramley Baths on Sunday – just days after concerns about speeding traffic were featured in West Leeds Dispatch.

Officers from West Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) carried out the checks outside Bramley Baths after bosses at the historic leisure facility expressed concerns about speeding drivers along Broad Lane. Warnings about speed follow a number of near misses and accidents on the stretch of road outside the Baths.

A police spokesperson said:

“Officers from your NPT conducted high visibility patrols in Bramley on Sunday. One driver was arrested for driving whilst under the influence of drugs. Officers also conducted speed checks outside Bramley Baths. Their presence was welcomed by members of the public.”

Bramley councillor Kevin Ritchie backed calls for people to slow their speed and has also encouraged people to contact him suggesting areas of Bramley to be targeted in future police deployments. He can be contacted at Kevin.Ritchie@leeds.gov.uk.

  1. Whilst it is good that the Police are trying to crack down on errant motorists, they ought to try Littlemoor Road in Pudsey. The place is like a racetrack! There are two schools within a short distance of each other, and it’s not only the speed of vehicles that is a concern, it’s also the abject stupidity of people who park on the bend near to Valley Road, where there are double white lines and a bus stop. But it appears that the law doesn’t apply to them as long as they can park as close as they can to school to drop their kids off, risking everyone’s safety
