COVERED: Councillors Kevin Ritchie and Caroline Gruen joined Bramley Bath’s David Wilford, CEO, and Baths' business development manager Helen Whiteley.

Community led Bramley Baths has installed a new £7,600 pool cover at the historic building.

The cover is much more efficient in maintaining the temperature of the water, saving on energy use, and adding to the significant contribution the Baths makes to addressing the climate emergency in Leeds.

Baths CEO David Wilford welcomed the new piece of equipment, which he said was much needed and would have been a very expensive item for a small community enterprise to afford by itself.

Bramley & Stanningley’s councillors have sponsored the pool cover to the tune of £6,256 from the inner west community committee wellbeing fund, which is aimed at improving amenities for the people of inner West Leeds.

Mr Wilford said: “We are delighted that the Baths now has a good quality, up to date pool cover instead of the old one, which was worn out and well past its best.”

In a joint statement, Councillors Kevin Ritchie and Caroline Gruen (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) said: “It’s great to support all the people – both adults and children – who use the Baths, like the cheery group who greeted us as we entered the pool area on their way to aqua aerobics and the crash course children’s half-term swimming course.

“They looked very confident indeed after their fourth lesson of five as they finished their session in the pool.”

In 2023 the Baths is celebrating ten years since the community took over its running from Leeds City Council.
