Community-led Bramley Baths is running a course to train up the next generation of lifeguards.
The six-day National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course will run at the Edwardian pool and will teach the basics of becoming a lifeguard, including poolside rescue and CPR and defibrillator training.
The Baths regularly provides courses to encourage people to learn important and transferable life-saving skills, as well as help people to provide career progression within the leisure industry.
The course is being run by experienced Bramley Baths swim teacher and duty manager Kristie Mawson. She said:
“The course offers a widely recognised qualification, but it isn’t easy! It’s intensive but extremely rewarding. Once you’ve completed the course, it opens the door to jobs within the industry – including here at Bramley Baths – and the possibility of moving onto becoming a swim teacher.”
Chief executive Sue Stones said:
“This course offers some important life skills – mainly the ability to save someone who may be in trouble. The skills are all transferable and also look good on your CV.”
The intensive course runs for six days from Monday, April 1. It costs £225. Attendees must be strong swimmers.
