An ‘Armley Extravaganza’ aims to bring people living in Armley and New Wortley through a fun cultural event aimed at everyone in the community.

Part of the Leeds 2023 Year of Culture celebrations, the event is being held on the open space off Strawberry Lane, on 5 August from 11am-4pm.

On the main stage will be Top End Productions’ short film about Armley called Reach for the Stars, as well as Leeds Youth Opera, New Wortley Writing Group and bands.

There will also be shadow puppetry from Suitcase Theatre, rugby sessions via West Leeds minis, a silent disco, face painting and graffiti workshops, alongside stalls by local groups and food and refreshments. Leeds Industrial Museum will also be attending.

Armley Leeds 2023 host Kim Frangos told last night’s Armley Forum meeting: “We have some brilliant community events, such as Armley Festival and New Wortley Festival and I wanted to bring us all together slap bang in the middle of them both.

“It’s accessible for all, with the number four and 16 buses going down either side and we’re aiming for something for everyone.”

Anyone wishing to help out on the day or run a stall or activity can contact Kim by e-mailing armleyhost@leeds2023.co.uk.
