A West Leeds bathroom retailer is urging other businesses to support addiction recovery social enterprise Getting Clean’s ‘TUBtrap’ campaign.
The three-day TUB trap fundraising event begins in Leeds City Square on Friday, 7 August and will see Getting Clean founder Chris Sylvester, who is in long-term recovery from addiction, sit in a bathtub for up to 60 hours with members of the public helping to ‘free’ him by buying soap.
Reaching the £50,000 sales target will unlock a £20,000 donation to a recovery support project led by Forward Leeds, and Armley based Sanctuary Bathrooms is now calling on other local businesses to back the campaign. Sanctuary has ordered 300 handmade soap bars, worth £2,350, to support the appeal.
From 7 August, Sanctuary Bathrooms will give a free bar of soap to customers buying a bath or shower, helping introduce Getting Clean’s work to households across the UK.

James Roberts, Director of Sanctuary Bathrooms, said: “As a Leeds-based family business, we wanted to do something practical to support the incredible work Getting Clean is doing in our local community.
“It’s using a simple, everyday product to create employment opportunities and help people in recovery rebuild their lives.
“The natural connection between its soaps and our customers’ new bathrooms gave us a meaningful way to get involved while introducing more people to its work.
“While stocks last, every customer who purchases a bath, bath or shower screen, or shower enclosure from Sanctuary Bathrooms will receive a free bar of Getting Clean soap. Our 300-bar order is a good start, but Getting Clean has an ambitious target to reach. We’re encouraging other businesses across Leeds to consider how they could support TUBtrap, whether that’s through a bulk order, corporate gifts for employees or clients, or one of the campaign’s pay-it-forward options.”
Businesses can support the campaign by purchasing soaps for employees, customers, or clients. They can also pay forward essential packs for people leaving prison or entering treatment, or buy soap directly during the event.
Armley-based Chris Sylvester, Founder of Getting Clean, said: “Sanctuary Bathrooms has placed the first business-to-business order towards our £50,000 TUBtrap target.
“The order will support around 25 hours of paid employment for people in recovery, and we’re delighted to have a fellow Armley-based business get behind us.
“Orders from local businesses can make a real contribution to the target while helping us create more employment and support opportunities for people in recovery. We hope Sanctuary’s involvement encourages other Leeds businesses to join in.”
Getting Clean employs people in recovery to make and sell its soap and pledges 50% of its profits to supporting addiction recovery.
