Armley and New Wortley – Pride in Place board appointed

The Rev Phil Arnold, Vicar of Christ Church, Upper Armley, is the chair of Armley and New Wortley Pride in Place programme. Here, he provides an update on the latest developments with the £20 million initiative.

Dear residents of Armley and New Wortley,

I hope you’ve been able to enjoy the sunny weather this week. Each month, I’ll be writing an update on Pride in Place.

You’ll hopefully be aware that Leeds has four areas which will receive Pride in Place funding and we are very lucky that two of those areas fall within LS12.

Jo Gittins is Chair of Pride in Place Board for the other area in LS12 (Farnley East).

Jo and I have known each other for several years due to work she has done in Armley and we’re keen to work together on our communication to make sure people don’t get mixed up between the two programmes. Jo will also be writing an update each month on Farnley Pride in Place news a little later in June.

We are pleased to share with you the names of the Pride in Place Board Members for Armley and New Wortley.

First board meeting

On Friday, 22 May we had our first board meeting following a meal at Bagaara Restaurant in Armley Town Street.

One of the outcomes of the meeting is the launch of the Pride in Place quick wins programme. Residents and organisations will be able to apply for up to £7,500 for quick wins in Armley and New Wortley.

If the application is for over £1,000, we recommend partnering with an organisation within the community, who can assist in how the funding is managed. The total amount of funding is £120,000.

There will be five rounds of funding until 31 March 2027. If you’d like an application form, please e-mail  prideinplace.armley@leeds.gov.uk.

Closing date for applications:

  • 1st round of funding: Friday, 26 June at 12pm.
  • 2nd round of funding: Friday, 28 August at 12pm
  • 3rd round of funding: Friday, 30 October at 12pm
  • 4th round of funding: Friday, 11 December at 12pm
  • 5th round of funding; Friday, 26 February at 12pm.

Launch of Pride In Place

We’re also planning on having a formal launch of Pride in Place for Armley and New Wortley on the 27 June from 10.30am until 1pm, with a free BBQ, bouncy castle, facepainting, ice cream, a balloon man, a walk about and lots more fun.

The venue will be the green space in front of St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School on Tong Road.
