On Sunday, 11 September New Farnley Cricket Club are hosting a charity event. There will be a BBQ, raffles, tombolas, auctions and entertainment for all the family.

Courtney Wilson-Calder, from Pudsey, has organised the event to raise vital funds for cancer charity Lymphoma action. Courtney was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma on August 18 this year.

Courtney, 28, said: “I first found a lump in my neck in March but the doctor thought it was a swollen lymph node.

“When it grew and became painful, I went to a specialist who told me it could be cancer.

“I found another lump and after a second biopsy I got a call from the hospital a week early and was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma the day before my 28th birthday.”

Along with her friends and family, Courtney has started to fundraise and raise awareness of the disease. Her JustGiving page has quickly surpassed its £500 target, currently standing at over £5,000.

Courtney explained: “I will shortly be starting treatment, I’m ready to give this my all. I want to encourage everyone of all ages to check their lumps and believe in their gut feeling.”

Lymphoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK.

Sarah Thorn, community and partnerships manager at Lymphoma Action, said: “Everyone is thinking of Courtney and wishing her the very best with her treatment. We want to say a huge thank you to her for so bravely raising awareness of lymphoma and fundraising for us, especially when she has only just received her diagnosis.”

Noel Bullock, public relations officer at New Farnley Cricket Club, said: “We are really honoured to be hosting the lymphoma action event. We’re hoping that Lawns Lane will be packed to the rafters, helping raise much-needed money towards a terrific cause.”

The event will be held at New Farnley Cricket Club Lawns Lane, New Farnley, Leeds, LS12 5ES on September 11 at 2pm.
