Children at a Kirkstall Road nursery have been getting creative by making their own pizzas, supported by their own in-house chef.
Youngsters at Bright Horizons Leeds Day Nursery and Preschool were encouraged to cook up a treat. The activity mirrors the nursery’s approach to nutrition, where children are encouraged to explore meals through colour, smell, texture and conversation, without pressure to taste or finish what’s on their plate.
A spokesperson for Bright Horizons said: “Pre-school children enjoyed making their own pizzas alongside our chef, Danny. The children are always excited to see Danny arrive with the delicious food he has prepared, so we wanted to give them the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a chef themselves.
“They carefully spread the tomato sauce, sprinkled cheese, and selected their own toppings, developing their fine motor skills, independence, and decision-making along the way. Working with real ingredients also encouraged conversations about healthy eating, counting, and following simple instructions.
“This is an activity that will become a regular part of our Preschool routine, giving the children valuable hands-on experiences while building confidence, creativity, and a greater appreciation for the food they enjoy each day.”
