Yorkshire Water has started work on two major projects in West Leeds that will help improve water quality in Pudsey Beck and reduce the number of storm overflow discharges during periods of heavy rainfall.
The schemes, between Kent Close and Hough Side Road (Pudsey) and Dale Farm (Cockersdale), form part of six projects being delivered across West Yorkshire and Bradford to improve the health of Pudsey Beck and support Yorkshire Water’s wider environmental investment programme.
By increasing the amount of wastewater that can be stored in the network during heavy rainfall, the projects will help reduce the need for storm overflows to operate, keeping more water in the system until it can be treated.
A new 2,500m3 wastewater storage facility is being constructed bear the bottom of Kent Close and Acres Hall Avenue, while a further 250m3 of storage will be created at Dale Farm.
Together, the schemes will help improve the resilience of the local wastewater network and deliver environmental benefits for Pudsey Beck.
Work is now under way with delivery partner Kier Group, with both schemes expected to be completed over the coming months.

“By creating additional storage within the wastewater network, we’ll be able to better manage flows during heavy rainfall and reduce the need for storm overflows to operate. These improvements are part of our largest-ever environmental investment programmes and reflect our commitment to improving Yorkshire’s river and waterways for future generations.”
Residents interested in learning more about the Kent Road project can attend a community drop-in event on 17 August on the grassed verge at the Kent Road and Valley Road junction (LS28 9BN), where members of the project team will be available to discuss the work and answer questions.
