A drop in event is planned in Wortley to help explain what proposals to expand Elland Road will mean for both Leeds United fans and for people living near the ground.
Expansion plans consist of expanding the West and North stands to increase the ground’s capacity from 37,645 to 53,000.
The club intends to submit a hybrid planning application later this summer seeking full permission to develop the West stand and outline permission for the North Stand (the Kop end).
The aim is to improve the match day experience of fans, enticing them to arrive at the ground earlier and leave later.

Leeds United hope to maintain the current ground capacity throughout the build. Subject to planning permission, they hope to start enabling works this year with the main build period fror the West stand running from Spring 2026 to Autumn 2028. The construction of North stand would follow in 2028-29.
Parts of Wortley are affected by matchday parking issues from Leeds United fans.
A drop in will be held at The Dragon Pub off Whitehall Road on Monday, May 19, from 5-8pm.Â
A main exhibition will be held in the Centenary Pavilion on Lowfields Road, LS11 on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May. There will be a quiet hour from 11am on Thursday for people with disabilities, then general admission from 12-8pm. Friday’s hours will be 2-8pm. The exhibition will include displays and a model of the proposed stadium development; representatives from the design team and the club will be on hand to answer questions.
A questionnaire to gather feedback will be available at all events and on the Leeds United website. You can also email comments to EllandRoadExpansion@leedsunited.com.
I hope WLD will be attending all of the consultation evenings and ensuring local residents voices are heard.
I don’t know anyone local who’s against the expansion (everyone I’ve spoken with is actually pro-expansion as it will bring investment into the wider area), however most local residents (Ie. In Wortley and near the Ring Road) that I’ve spoken with are concerned about an increase in traffic, parking, litter, etc… and are asking for mitigations like more double yellow lines in residential areas, as well as improved traffic flow and junctions on the ring road. I hope WLD will be keeping an eye on these issues, otherwise Wortley will see a lot of impact but none of the benefit and with no mitigations either. This is not about objecting but just making sure we are not forgotten in the early stages of the of consultation.
We will be attending tomorrow’s public consultation event and will be following this issue.
