The winners were announced today in the Rodley Hanging Basket Competition with some beautiful hanging baskets and planters decorating the village, writes JILL BUCKLEY.
The competition was hosted by community group Light Up Rodley and judged by Richard Gill from Leeds in Bloom, who has also been instrumental in helping the group to obtain two benches for the Peace Gardens and two planters on Town Street.
The Gold prize was won by Faye Wolstenholme, Silver by Dagmar Fitzpatrick and Bronze by Jan Jackson. They will receive prizes of vouchers for £50, £40 and £30 respectively, donated by Leeds in Bloom, to spend at Redhall Garden Centre. All entrants will receive a certificate from Leeds in Bloom.
Light Up Rodley’s Mel Brear said:
“Richard commented on how nice the gardens, planters and baskets were and was surprised that more people hadn’t entered. Hopefully next year we will get a bigger response.”
Volunteers at Light Up Rodley are starting working on the Christmas switch on. Last year was Rodley’s first ever switch on and organisers are planning for the event to be bigger and better for this year.
Thanks to Mel Brear for the photos.
