West Leeds venues become ‘cool spaces’ to escape hot weather

Community hubs and leisure centres in West Leeds are opening their doors as free, welcoming spaces to help people escape the summer sun.

Some of Leeds City Council’s Welcome Spaces across the city will offer a cool space where people can spend time to help to reduce health risks from heat.

From tomorrow (Monday, 1 June) they will provide:

• A cooler indoor environment
• A comfortable place to sit and rest
• Access to free drinking water
• Helpful heat health information and home thermometers

A council spokesperson said:”No booking is needed, and absolutely everyone is welcome. These hubs are especially useful if you have little ones, are an older resident, or if your home gets uncomfortably hot during the day.”

Hubs in West Leeds include:

  • Armley Community Hub
  • Armley Leisure Centre
  • Bramley Community Hub
  • Farsley Community hub
  • Hawksworth Hub
  • Kirkstall Leisure Centre
  • Pudsey Leisure Centre
