A West Leeds father is attempting to beat the world record for the number of countries visited in a single 24-hour period by using public transport.

Using only scheduled flights, buses and trains, Adam Leyton will set off from France on the 25th May and race across Europe through a further 10 countries before finishing in the 12th, Austria, just under 24 hours later. He said:

“With the EU referendum on 23rd June, it seemed the perfect time to see how much of Europe I can see. In a day! It’s a bit of a crazy idea, but should be a great experience and if I can make it work, I will have broken a world record that has stood since 1993.”

As he makes his way around Europe, Mr Leyton will be raising money for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

Sands offers support to anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. Mr Leyton added:

“The support they gave to my sister and her family six years ago after the tragic loss of her baby, Tilly Rose, just five days before her due date was incredible. This is my way of saying thank you to them and I’m hoping that in the course of this world record attempt I can raise a few pounds for this wonderful charity.”

You can keep up to date on Adam’s progress via his website, and donate via the Just Giving page he has set up.
