Life is busy as ever at Kirkstall Valley Farm. We’ve been welcoming our usual 130 veg box customers to the farm every week, plus lots of volunteers. We’ve also had some special projects on the go including:
– Our open morning on 17 January where visitors had a tour of the farm, helped sort out our rhubarb plants and enjoyed a bring and share lunch. We’ll be running more of these in future, keep an eye on our social media for the date of the next one and thanks to all the volunteers who organised this.
– There’s been a big team effort on digging a trench to help get an electricity cable laid. Over 35 different people picked up a shovel, many hands make light work as they say! This will eventually help make the farm a more welcoming place all year round.
– We’ve welcomed Leeds Community Sauna to the KVF site. They’re now up and running – check out their website to book a session.
– Ben and a team of volunteers have been replacing an old and damaged cover on one of our polytunnels. Hopefully by the time you read this, we’ll have had a dry sunny day and this job will be finished!
– Our friends at Fruitworks have been helping us plant rows of fruit trees. Eventually, we’ll grow veg in amongst these rows, and are excited to show how you can grow fruit and veg together.
It’s felt like a long, grey winter, and we’ve been so grateful for a few sunny days recently. We’ve begun sowing seeds; as well as lots of the veg you’d expect, this year we will be trying to grow watermelons! Cross your fingers for some sunshine so they grow well….
